CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, introducing significant upgrades in camera technology, performance capabilities, and battery efficiency. Both devices are equipped with a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera with a variable aperture. They also incorporate the new A20 Pro chip along with an upgraded vapor chamber cooling system. Additionally, Apple has redesigned the Dynamic Island to provide more comprehensive information display. Preorders commence on September 12, with sales beginning September 18 in over 65 countries and regions.

The upgraded main camera features six laser-cut blades that shift between four aperture settings, allowing users to adjust depth of field and light intake within the Camera app. Pro mode adds manual controls for shutter speed and white balance, while a histogram feature helps monitor exposure before capturing photos or videos. New Photographic Styles include options for texture and grain adjustments. The phones also support post-capture Cinematic effects on videos recorded at up to 60 frames per second.

Apple’s Reference Image tool introduces a new way to verify whether images have been altered after capture. This mode records signed sensor data when users take a shot with the Main camera, which is processed into a reference image by Private Cloud Compute. Users can compare this reference with the original photo within the Photos app. Apple intends to add support for SynthID later in 2026. The company states that image metadata will serve as another method for identifying AI-generated or edited content.

Variable aperture expands camera control options

The A20 Pro chip uses a 2-nanometer manufacturing process, combining a six-core CPU with a seven-core GPU. According to Apple, the GPU offers performance improvements of up to 40% over the A19 Pro. The processor also features a Dual 16-core Neural Engine, totaling 32 cores. Its redesigned thermal system connects more directly to a larger vapor chamber, which boasts three times the surface area of the previous version. Apple claims this setup enhances sustained performance during intensive tasks.

Battery life sees improvements on both models, with the most notable gains on eSIM-only variants. The iPhone 18 Pro can deliver up to 36 hours of video playback, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max reaches up to 45 hours under similar testing. Wired accessories can charge the Pro model to 50% in approximately 15 minutes. The eSIM-only models eliminate the physical SIM tray, occupying that space with other components. These versions will launch in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.

Siri AI Debuts with iOS 27

Running on iOS 27, the iPhone 18 Pro series supports the latest Apple Intelligence features. Siri AI enters beta on September 14 for supported devices configured in English. Support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish follows in October. Siri AI can utilize personal context from messages, emails, and photos to respond to requests and can also react to information displayed on the screen. Cloud-based tasks supported by Private Cloud Compute, while other functions are processed directly on the device.

Pricing for the iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 in the United States, with the iPhone 18 Pro Max beginning at $1,299. Customers can select storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB. Available finishes include black, silver, glacier, and burgundy. Preorders open at 5 a.m. Pacific Time on September 12. Retail availability begins on September 18 in the initial markets, followed by an expansion to 20 additional countries and regions on September 25.
