LONDON / RankWire.AI / – On Saturday, a large industrial fire erupted at a mixed-waste transfer site on Hannah Close in Neasden, releasing dense black smoke across northwest London and leading to significant interruptions in regional transportation. The London Fire Brigade dispatched 20 fire engines along with around 125 firefighters to the scene, located less than a mile from Wembley Stadium. The emergency response was triggered after more than 70 calls came in starting at 11:34 a.m. Firefighters used high-volume pumps, drone surveillance, and 32-meter aerial ladders to combat the flames that consumed a commercial building approximately 100 meters by 150 meters.

The fire caused widespread disruption to underground and rail services across northwest London. Transport for London suspended all services on the Metropolitan line and halted operations on the Jubilee line between Wembley Park and West Hampstead. Additionally, national rail services into London Marylebone faced major delays and cancellations due to emergency perimeters blocking access routes. Authorities advised residents nearby to keep windows and doors shut to avoid inhaling smoke while firefighters worked to contain the blaze.

As part of safety precautions, a nearby Amazon distribution center was evacuated to protect employees from the heavy smoke. Emergency medical crews from the London Ambulance Service responded to the incident, confirming that no casualties or firefighter injuries occurred during the initial firefighting efforts. By late afternoon, fire brigade commanders announced that the fire was under control after extensive suppression work.

London Fire Brigade officials stated that specialized teams from Wembley, Park Royal, Willesden, and other nearby stations remained at the scene throughout the day, working to extinguish remaining hot spots within the debris. Assistant Commissioner Andy Pennick confirmed that upon arrival, the first officer requested an immediate escalation to 20 appliances due to the well-developed nature of the fire. Environmental health officers and industrial safety teams established monitoring zones to check air quality levels in surrounding residential areas.

This incident marks the third significant waste facility fire in London during the summer, attracting the attention of environmental safety organizations. Representatives from the Environmental Services Association highlighted ongoing concerns about improperly disposed lithium-ion batteries, which often trigger rapid fires in waste processing plants. Fire investigators have launched an official inquiry to determine the exact cause of the Neasden fire, authorities confirmed.

Local officials commended the swift multi-agency response that prevented the fire from spreading to nearby commercial units. The fire near Wembley Stadium prompted transit engineers to inspect overhead rail infrastructure and track conditions before full train service restoration could be authorized. Authorities anticipate that normal transportation operations and industrial site access will gradually resume once safety assessments are complete.

Late in the evening, phased reopening of transport services began following detailed track inspections by railway engineers. Industrial operators are working closely with local council officials to manage structural safety clearances and waste removal procedures in the coming days. The London Fire Brigade reiterated their advice for residents to stay cautious as emergency crews finalize operations at the scene.
